What size is your electrical panel?

Panel Upgrades — Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what size my electrical panel is?

The main breaker inside the panel is usually labeled with its amperage — 100, 150, or 200. If you're not sure or can't find the label, choose "Not sure" and we'll confirm it on a site visit.

What does it mean if my panel "may need an upgrade"?

It means you're close to the limit. Depending on how full the panel already is and the exact load of what you're adding, you may have room — or you may need a service change. A quick look at the panel settles it.

Do I need a panel upgrade before adding an EV charger?

It depends on your panel size and how much room is left. A Level 2 EV charger needs a dedicated 240V circuit, and a 100-amp service that's already full may need an upgrade first.

Does the age of my panel matter?

Yes. Older panels can have worn breakers, limited available space, and outdated designs. A panel over 25 years old is more likely to need an upgrade, especially when adding new load.

What if I'm adding more than one thing at once?

Adding an EV charger, a heat pump, and a generator together pushes your service hard. In that case a panel upgrade or service change is often the right call so everything fits safely.
